3 Best Baltimore Maryland Family Photography Locations
Baltimore City offers a beautiful range of locations perfect for documenting family photos in Maryland. From natural landscapes to historic city historic spots, there's a backdrop to suit every family's style! As a Baltimore family photographer, I've had the pleasure of documenting families in many of these wonderful spots. Here are a few of my top recommendations for your next family photoshoot.
Rawlings Conservatory & Druid Hill Park
Rawlings Conservatory, nestled within the expansive Druid Hill Park, offers a stunning and versatile setting for family photos year-round.
Spring, Summer, and Fall in Druid Hill Park
Surrounding the conservatory, Druid Hill Park bursts with seasonal beauty. In the spring, you'll find vibrant blooms and greenery, providing a fresh and colorful backdrop. Summer offers shady spots under mature trees and sprawling lawns and gardens perfect for staying cooler. As autumn arrives, the park transforms into a spectacle of warm reds, oranges, and yellows, especially in the woods at the edges of the space.
Winter Warmth Inside Rawlings Conservatory
During the colder winter months, the Rawlings Conservatory itself becomes an invaluable haven for family photos. Its stunning glass architecture lets in natural light, warm and perfect for portraits. The plant collections, from tropical palms to vibrant orchids and seasonal displays, are such a beautiful and interactive surrounding for photos.
Important Note: Taking professional photos inside the Rawlings Conservatory requires a photo permit, so we’ll need to get that squared away before taking photos inside!
Mount Vernon & the Washington Monument
The historic Mount Vernon neighborhood, anchored by the iconic Baltimore Washington Monument, offers a sophisticated historic backdrop for family photos.
Architectural Elegance and Splendor
Mount Vernon boasts stunning 19th-century architecture, grand brownstones, and multiple beautifully maintained squares. This provides a timeless and elegant feel for family portraits! In the spring, the neighborhood comes alive with blooming trees, adding pops of color against the classic architecture. Later in the year, the mature trees surrounding the monument and lining the streets erupt in vibrant fall foliage, offering a warm and picturesque setting.
A Blend of Greenery and Grandeur
The area immediately around the Washington Monument itself provides a wonderful mix of manicured greenery and the monument as a recognizable focal point. The steps and surrounding pathways offer various perspectives and posing opportunities. Whether you prefer a more linear backdrop against the architectural details or a more organic vibe around the mature trees, Mount Vernon offers the best of both worlds. Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church, a significant landmark and gorgeous example Victorian Gothic architecture, is one of my favorite spots on this route. The building has so much historic beauty in its brownstone construction, pointed spires, accented red doors, and unique stonework.
Fells Point: Historic Charm and Waterfront Views
For a family photoshoot with a unique Baltimore flavor, consider the charming historic waterfront neighborhood of Fells Point.
Cobblestone Streets and Maritime Ambiance
Fells Point's cobblestone streets, historic pubs, and cute storefronts give a timeless vibe. The waterfront location provides sweeping views of the harbor, adding a wide-open element to your photos. The small, colorful buildings offer a vibrant backdrop as well, perfect for a fun feel.
Waterfront Adventures (Optional Water Taxi!)
For a touch of extra adventure and a different perspective, consider incorporating a ride on the Baltimore Water Taxi into your Fells Point photoshoot. The views of the city skyline and harbor from the water are fantastic and can provide some fun and unique candid moments as you commute between different spots in the area.
These are just a few of the many fantastic locations Baltimore has to offer for family photography. When choosing the perfect spot for your family, consider the time of year, the overall style you're hoping to achieve, and what resonates most with your family's personality. I'm always happy to discuss location ideas and help you find the perfect backdrop for your precious memories!
